26.04.2012

Afghan girlSteve McCurry, who often publishes in National Geographic magazine, is one of the most renowned photographers of our time and the recipient of numerous prestigious photography awards. He partly gained his reputation as a top photographer through his image of the Afghan girl refugee that he photographed in the mid eighties, and then after almost two decades found her again and disclosed her name to the world – Sharbat Gula.

Many describe the portrait of the "Afghan girl", which was published in 1985 on the cover of National Geographic magazine, as the most recognizable photograph in the world.

The photographs of Sharbat Gula (then and now) and many others can be viewed at Ljubljana Castle from 30 April to 17 June.
